CHAPTER 4
THE SPIRIT OF ELIJAH
THE SPIRIT OF ELIJAH STUDY ON THE SPIRIT OF
ELIJAH PROPHECY WITH THE SPIRIT OF ELIJAH MESSAGE ON
THE SPIRIT OF ELIJAH EVENTS
Welcome back to
Daily Bread, and the conclusion of our study of The Book of Malachi. We’ve
seen a spectrum of God’s emotions written in the words of Malachi, and he
concludes his prophecy with some closing words from the Lord. First, some
words or warning for the wicked, comfort for the righteous, and
encouragement for everybody. At the end, the Lord reveals a sign to look
for, at the approach of the End Times.
For, watch, the day comes, that shall burn as an oven;
and all the proud,
yes, and all that do wickedly,
shall be stubble:
and the day that comes shall burn them up,
says the LORD of hosts,
that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.
But to you that fear my name
the Sun of righteousness shall arise with healing in His
wings;
and you shall go forth (continue on), and grow up as
calves of the stall (protected).
And you shall tread down the wicked;
for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet
in the day that I shall do this, says the LORD of hosts.
Remember the law of Moses my servant,
which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel,
with the statutes and judgments.
Behold,
I will send you Elijah the
Prophet
before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the
LORD:
And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children,
and the heart of the children to their fathers,
lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.
THE
SPIRIT OF ELIJAH LESSON WITH THE SPIRIT OF ELIJAH EXPLANATION AND THE
SPIRIT OF ELIJAH SUMMARY
Now, we’re gonna take a look ahead into the
Gospels for a moment and see something very interesting. John the Baptist
was the son of Zacharias and an angel appeared to him before John was
conceived and told him this about John:

Luke 1:16-17
And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the
Lord their God. And he shall go before Him (Jesus) in the
spirit and power of Elijah,
to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,
and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just;
to make ready a people prepared for the Lord. |
And now, a little tidbit of information
about a person’s
spirit.
|
Ecclesiastes 12:7
Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was:
and the spirit shall return to God who gave it.
|
This is how a person can have the spirit of another
person. God can put the same spirit in different people, and John had the
spirit of Elijah.
You can have the spirit
of a person, without actually being that person.
In fact ... there are two spirits
that stand before the Lord that God puts into humans to do His will ...
Here is what Jesus said about John the
Baptist:

Matthew 11:10,
13-14
For this is he, of whom it is written,
Behold, I send my messenger before your face,
which shall prepare your way before you.
For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.
And if you will receive it,
this is Elijah,
which was for to come.
|
And this is what John said about himself:
|
John 1:19-23
And this is the record of John,
when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to
ask him, Who are you?
And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ.
And they asked him, What then?
Are you Elijah ? And he said,
I am not.
Are you that prophet? And he answered, No.
Then they asked him, Who are thou? So we may give an answer to them that
sent us.
What do you say about yourself?

Matthew
3:3
He said, I am the voice of one crying in the
wilderness,
Make straight the way of
the Lord, as said the prophet Isaiah. |

Isaiah 40:3
The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the
LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
|
THE SPIRIT OF ELIJAH INFORMATION WITH THE SPIRIT OF
ELIJAH MEANING AND THE SPIRIT OF ELIJAH DISCUSSION
Now, here are two different versions, one from Matthew,
and one from Mark, of what Jesus said to Peter, James and John after the
transfiguration, when Moses and Elijah appeared in the mountain and talked
with Jesus.

Matthew 17:9-13
And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged
them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen
again from the dead.
And His disciples asked Him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come?
And Jesus answered and said unto them,
Elias
truly shall first come,
and restore all things. But I say unto you, That
Elias is come already,
and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever
they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them.
Then the disciples understood that He spoke to them of John the Baptist.

Mark 9:9-13
And as they came down from the mountain, He charged them
that they should tell no man what things they had seen,
till the Son of man were risen from the dead.
And they kept that saying with themselves, questioning one with another what the rising from the dead
should mean.
And they asked Him, saying, Why say the scribes that Elias must first come?
And He answered and told them,
Elias verily
cometh first,
and restoreth all things; and how it is written of the Son
of man, that he must suffer many things, and be set at nought.
But I say unto you, That
Elias is indeed come,
and they have done unto him whatsoever they listed, as it
is written of him.

There’s no
question that the spirit of Elijah was in John the Baptist. But it sure
sounds like the message that Malachi is relaying to us, is that there’s yet
another appearance of Elijah to come. How do you know? Two things. Remember,
God said, Watch, I will send you Elijah the prophet
before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the
LORD.
That would be Jesus’ second visit, not His first. And, it says that he will
restore all things, reconciling fathers with their children and vice versa.
That certainly hasn’t happened yet either. So, it looks like this prophecy
is yet to be fulfilled and is a sign that we should look for.
